Remote Monitoring
 |
 |
TDS, Inc. can monitor your
network and/or critical servers from our
location. Our Remote Monitoring Service
(RMS) is capable of remotely monitoring the
network connectivity of any IP-capable
server system. In particular, this service
is available for servers anywhere.
What do we provide within the NOC
facility?
TDS, Inc. provides a
professional remote monitoring service from
its Network Operations Center (NOC). The NOC
facility constantly monitors your server(s)
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In the event
of an alarm, TDS, Inc.
will promptly notify the customer and take
immediate action to resolve the problem. We
monitor backup services, internet connection
status, and perform any critical updates –
all remotely.
What are the owner's responsibilities?
The owners of monitored systems must provide
us with the public IP address of the server,
times in which critical updates can be
applied (as this would most likely require a
server reboot), and emergency contact
information. You should also supply us with
contact information for your Internet
Service Provider (ISP) in case of Internet
outage.
Owners must notify the NOC in advance of any
scheduled downtime or reboots.
What are the limits on this service?
Remote monitoring is intended to provide
some indication of whether a server is alive
and responding. Because a server responds to
a ping request, it does not imply that the
applications are running. Even if the
applications are running they may not be
functioning correctly. Therefore, remote
monitoring is limited in its ability to
indicate the state of a service.
Remote monitoring does not imply that the
machine and/or service it provides are
reachable by other than the monitoring
system in the NOC. Portions of the Internet,
other than the path between the monitored
server and the NOC monitoring system, may be
down.
